The 1991 Ferrari Testarossa initially didn’t receive the attention and praise it truly deserves; even The Smoking Tire’s Matt Farah dismissed it as a contemptible performance ride. However, things have changed. Matt has a newfound enthusiasm about the car and commends the sophistication of its 4.9-liter flat-12 engine, with dual overhead cams and a dry sump oil system
The proud owner has had this wonderful Italian supercar for only six months, but this is not his first Testarossa. It appears to be in great shape, and runs with assertion as Matt rows the gated shifter through LA County’s winding canyon roads. He had a couple of giggles and a final “Whooo!”. He just can’t help it and perhaps neither could we if get a change to go behind the wheel.
The 1991 Ferrari Testarossa has certainly matured much like fine Italian wine. It is now widely regarded as one of the most iconic supercars of the 80s, alongside the Lamborghini Countach. A few years back you could buy a used example for only $40,000 but that’s no longer the case as the kids who once had the poster of it on their bedroom walls have grown up and are now living their childhood dreams.
