For youngsters who have only known a Fast and Furious franchise to be about explosions and the high-flying stunts, there was the simpler time.
It was the time when the craziest stunt the character pulled was leaping off of the semi truck onto the Toyota Supra, the film was released on VHS, and the star car was none other than the Volkswagen Jetta. We miss those days.
New fans of the series may not recognize this guy, but it is Chad Lindberg, this actor who played Jesse in the original The Fast and the Furious from 2001.
This is his car: the 1995 Volkswagen Jetta that the Quebec-based performance shop called GAB Eurosport painstakingly re-created. And then, Chad Lindberg himself is brought in to be reunited with it. Glorious nostalgic feelings ensue.
Lindberg’s character wouldn’t make it past a first film, but Jesse birthed some of a most iconic catchphrases that are still uttered at parking lot car shows today.
The vehicle gods’ prayer, overnight parts from Japan, other classic lines left Lindberg’s lips. At a reunion, the shop and everyone in attendance are clearly elated to see Chad Lindberg with the car.
We are not sure if Lindberg is trying to channel his inner Jesse, or if he is simply that chill in real life more than a decade later.
Toward the end of this clip, the shop also rolls in the replica of Brian O’Conner’s Mitsubishi Eclipse.
