When it comes to epic barn finds, the 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona is definitely one of the rarest. With only a total of 503 copies ever built, the car is incredibly rare by all accounts. Finding one sitting in a yard and being beaten by the elements is such a travesty. Fortunately, there is hope for this classic ride. The owner passed away from a rare form of cancer and his family in Wisconsin decided to allow the Auto Archaeologist to restore and preserve the car.

The 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona was designed and built with a single objective in mind: win at NASCAR’s superspeedway events, where the radical aerodynamic refinements helped the car reach and maintain top speed for long stretches and through the high banked curves. The cars did enjoy considerable success on the track, but their ticket to fame was the fact that they were the first cars to breach the 200 mph-mark, a feat that was accomplished in 1970 at Talladega.

With only a few hundred of these cars produced and so many of them already in the garages of intrepid buyers, the value has soared in recent years. The one in the video is a 440 Magnum that will command about $300,000. However, those versions with the 426″ Hemi and 4-speed manual transmission have topped out close to a million dollars because only 70 of them rolled off the production line.
