Electric cars will come. Sooner or later. It does not even matter anymore. But they will come. And the whole world has to be prepared for them. In order to do just that, BMW is on a mission of creating a usable technology which is to be used at large. And one of the most important pieces of tech they are working on is the creation of the wireless charging technology. Imagine having a wireless charger in any parking spot. It would be rad.

Now, the wireless electric charging process works by induction. The trick is to use alternating magnetic fields in order to transfer electric power from one place to another. And that is possible by using one magnetic pad on the floor with the other alternating magnetic pad on the floor of the car. When a car drives over the pad and positions itself on top of it, an electronic transfer will start at once. BMW 530e with its 9.2 kWh pack can be recharged in just 3.5 hours. Half the time compared to the standard 120-volt outlet.

Now, powering up a massive battery pack with this system may take much more time. Nevertheless, steps like this are extremely important in cracking the wireless charging code.
